The questions beneath the questions

Come curious.Leave understood.

The practical pieces matter. So does knowing what it will feel like to trust us with a story you cannot repeat.

River Songs, answered honestly

No script. No mystery. Just what we know to be true.

01I’ve never had pictures taken before. How will I know what to do? What if I’m awkward in front of the camera?

Look at the photos on this site, on our IG, TikTok, and FB. Not one of them are professional models. The majority have never had a photoshoot before; we offer guidance from start to finish; all you have to do is show up 💚 You will receive a complimentary client guide upon booking, and you will be instructed through the photoshoot from start to finish. We are not “look at the camera and smile” photographers; instead, you’ll be instructed to interact with the people and world around you in a natural way, which makes our photoshoots fun, engaging, and artful!

02Who will photograph our story?

Caledonia and Jay are the River Songs Photos photography team. Caledonia is the lead photographer and storyteller; Jay photographs the parallel moments, second angles, family, and everything happening just outside the first frame.

03Where does River Songs Photos travel?

River Songs Photos serves Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, all across the Appalachian Mountains and into New York State, traveling to Destinations throughout the entire United States, and International Destinations as well! We follow the story no matter where it may take us.

04What kinds of stories do you photograph?

We photograph weddings, elopements, engagements, couples, maternity and motherhood, families and newborns, graduations and seniors, creative portraits, and destination stories that do not fit neatly inside a box.

05What does being photographed by you feel like?

Our work lives between documentary and editorial. We stay quiet when the moment is already saying everything, offer gentle direction when you need somewhere to put your hands, and use movement, conversation, and simple prompts instead of asking you to perform happiness for the camera.

06What wedding and elopement coverage is available?

Current coverage ranges from Hearthside for up to three hours of intimate wedding or elopement storytelling, to Willow Tree with six hours and two photographers, to River’s Gold for full-day coverage with two photographers and a complimentary engagement session.

07Can I use the River Songs Client Closet?

A small collection of romantic gowns is available for select sessions. We will help you choose the gown, light, and landscape, and the Client Closet page shows how each piece moves, glows, and photographs in real stories.

08Do you photograph Virginia Tech graduates?

Yes. River Songs Photos photographs dozens of graduates each year and has substantial experience creating Virginia Tech graduate sessions.

09Do you photograph maternity, families, and newborns?

Yes. Maternity, motherhood, family, and newborn stories are all welcome, along with creative portraits and seasons of becoming that deserve to be remembered with the same care as a wedding day.

10Are destination weddings and elopements welcome?

Absolutely. Mountain weekends, faraway vows, United States destinations, and international destinations are part of the work. Tell us where the story is calling you when you inquire.

11How do we begin?

Use the inquiry form to share the people, place, date if you have one, and the feeling you want to remember. River Songs Photos usually replies within two business days, and even a half-formed idea is welcome.
