The people behind the photographs

We chase the feeling, not the formula.

Hey there

I see the poetry in people.

I'm Caledonia; the photographer, poet, lifelong romantic, and mountain child at the heart of River Songs Photos.

Photography began with my love affair with nature and my childhood in the Appalachian Mountains. The land taught me to notice: the strange green light before rain, the way memory lives inside an old road, the gestures people make when they forget anyone is looking.

When I see people, I see the poetry of their lives too. That is what I am reaching for when I photograph you; not a flawless performance, but the honest, wild, in-between pieces that will mean more as the years pass.

“Our photographs are not meant to prove that a day looked perfect. They are meant to remember that it was yours.”

Two sets of eyes, one story

Jay sees what is happening just outside the frame.

We began in 2021 with one camera, one photographer, and one assistant. Jay quickly became the second photographer beside me: finding the parallel moment, watching the family, carrying the practical weight, and making sure no part of the story belongs to a single point of view.

We are a wife-and-husband team in life and in the work. There is an ease between us that lets us move through a wedding day quietly, laugh with your people, and know when the moment needs direction; or space.
