The Wyar Family’s Vow Renewal at Sinkland Farms | A Decade of Love, Held in Sunlight

Some stories aren’t meant to be told in perfect sentences. They’re meant to be felt. Like the way her hand slid into his again, after ten years of marriage and memory. Or the way their kids ran wild in the grass, sun-drunk and barefoot, like the love their parents built was a place to run free in.

That’s the story of the Wyar family, and the day they renewed their vows at Sinkland Farms; just outside Christiansburg, Virginia.. on a July afternoon that felt spun from gold.

It was as beautiful as it was real. The kind of day that smells like fresh-cut grass and the inside of a linen closet, where someone’s been hiding old love letters.

Ten years ago, they made promises. Not the shiny, performative kind you see in the movies.. but the ones that survive life. The kind that still mean something after bills, bedtime stories, and every “I’m sorry” you say with your whole chest. And this day? It was about choosing again. Choosing each other, day after shining day.

Jay and I were there to capture the story, to witness. To catch it mid-laughter, mid-hug, mid-tear. The soft way they looked at each other, the wild joy of their kids, the way everyone moved like they were part of one big heartbeat. Every frame we shot that day felt like a conversation between light and legacy.

There was nothing stiff or over-posed. The photos were taken in motion, in real time, with grass stains and wind-blown hair. Even the sun seemed to be in on it; filtering through the trees like it knew this family had earned its warmth.

And listen, if you’ve never been to Sinkland Farms in July, it’s the kind of place where everything feels more alive. The sky was wide open. The air smelled sweet. And every corner felt like it had been waiting to hold this family’s joy. Pure, unadulterated Joy.

There’s one image Jay captured; their eyes met, vows spoken low like a secret; and I swear you can feel the decade in it. Not just love, but the work of it. The beauty of choosing again and again and again.

That’s luxury to me. Not chandeliers and stiff suits. But people showing up, showing out, saying “yes” again with the full weight of what that means. And knowing we were trusted to photograph that? That’s something we’ll never take for granted.

The Wyar family’s story unfolds before us; preserved in light. In laughter. In little stolen glances and big, bold “we still do”s.

If you ever wonder what it means to photograph a love story…this is it. Not just capturing how it looked. But how it felt. That is what it means to be a photographer, to be in love with your work, and to be in love with all the little moments that make up this great life.
