A Warm Welcome at Cortney's Family Home
From the moment we arrived at Cortney's family home in Blacksburg, we were welcomed with open arms. It wasn't long before we felt like a part of the family, and this made capturing the intimate moments of the day even more special. One of our favorite memories was Cortney's grandmother, who lovingly made multiple handmade cakes and desserts instead of a single wedding cake. The sweet treats were not only delicious but also showcased the incredible bond this family shares.
Getting Ready in the misty Morning
As a wedding photographer, I have captured countless getting ready photos in luxurious hotel suites and chic venues. But there was something particularly special about photographing Cortney and Seth getting ready in Cortney's family cabin on that rainy October day in the middle of the hurricane. The coziness of the cabin permeated the air, and the warm wood walls and soft lighting made for a beautiful backdrop for the photos. It was as if we were all huddled together, taking shelter from the storm outside. The intimacy of the space made it easy for me to capture genuine moments of the couple and their loved ones as they prepared for the big day. It was a reminder that sometimes the most special moments can be found in the most unexpected places.
Despite the chaos of the weather, there was a sense of calm and serenity in the cabin that morning. The soft pitter-patter of raindrops against the roof, the gentle hum of hairdryers and makeup brushes, and the occasional burst of laughter created a soothing atmosphere. As I moved around the cabin, capturing candid shots of the bridal party getting ready, I couldn't help but feel humbled to be a part of such an intimate and meaningful moment. It was clear that Cortney and Seth had chosen to get ready in the cabin not just for practical reasons, but because it held a special place in their hearts. The getting ready photos turned out beautifully, and I knew that they would be cherished memories for years to come.
A Break in the Storm
After a hectic morning of getting ready, it was a relief when the rain finally let up for a brief moment. We took advantage of the break and quickly gathered the bridesmaids outside to capture some photos. The vibrant autumn colors of their velveteen dresses were perfectly complemented by the natural beauty of the surrounding trees and foliage. We had so much fun encouraging them to goof off and capturing genuine smiles from the group. It was clear that the bridesmaids were enjoying the moment and each other's company, and I was grateful to be able to capture these joyful memories for them. The photos turned out stunning, and I knew that they would be cherished reminders of the special bond between the bride and her closest friends. The bonds in this group were so strong and evident!
We then joined the Groomsmen for some laughter and fun group photos before the ceremony began. They were so happy for Seth and Cortney, and were a blast to work with.
The First Touch, and Letter Reading
One of the most touching moments of Cortney and Seth's wedding day was the first touch they shared right before their ceremony. As they held hands around the corner of a doorway in their cabin, they read letters to each other. It was an intimate and emotional moment, and I could see the love and anticipation in their eyes as they prepared to begin their new lives together.
After this beautiful moment, Cortney's dad had the opportunity to see her in her wedding dress for the first time. It was a heartwarming moment as he looked at his daughter in awe, taking in the sight of her on her special day. It was clear that this was a moment that he would always cherish, and we felt so honored to have been there to capture it all.
This first touch was a reminder that weddings are about so much more than just the ceremony itself - they're about the moments shared between loved ones, both big and small, that make the day truly special.
A Rainy & Romantic Ceremony Beneath an Ancient Oak Tree
As the rain poured down and the wind howled, Cortney and Seth were married beneath an ancient oak tree in the family’s yard. The misty atmosphere only added to the romance of the moment, as Cortney looked stunning in her off-white wedding dress with its multitudes of ruffles and layers. The bridesmaids complemented her beautifully, in their velvety fall-colored dresses that perfectly matched the season.
Before the ceremony, we were touched by Seth's display of faith as he knelt and prayed. This moment of reflection set the tone for a heartfelt and emotional exchange of vows, with family and friends huddled together beneath umbrellas to witness the love between Cortney and Seth.
Dancing in the Rain: A Joyful Reception
After the ceremony, the weather couldn't dampen the spirits of the guests, who danced the night away under a canopy of twinkling lights and tents. We joined in the fun, dancing with the guests as we captured the lively reception photos. The laughter and love that filled the area was infectious, and we couldn't help but be moved by the ambiance, love, and passion displayed at this incredible celebration!
The Sparkler Exit
The late night sparkler exit was the perfect way to end Cortney and Seth's reception. As the couple emerged from the venue hand in hand, their loved ones eagerly lit up sparklers, creating a romantic and exciting atmosphere. It was a truly magical moment as Cortney and Seth shared a kiss in the middle of all their family and friends who cheered them on with their blazing sparklers. The sparklers provided a beautiful backdrop for the couple's final moments of the evening, and the joy and love in the air was simply breathtaking. It was clear that this was a moment that Cortney and Seth would remember for the rest of their lives. As photographers, it was a privilege to capture this breathtaking moment and to witness the love that was shared between this wonderful couple and all of their many loved ones.

We're honored to have been a part of their special day and to have made lasting friendships with such a warm and welcoming group of people. As wedding photographers, it's days like these that remind us of the magic that can happen when love conquers all, even during a hurricane.
